Land of Hope and Glory
Oil and charcoal on canvas
Horizontal polytych 5 x 50x50cm
Starting with hard edge abstract stripes this painting took quite a different turn and these became an underpainting for a more expressive work in which Nancy used painterly brush strokes and drips of pink paint, her palette of politics, as it is right now. She built on this energy by drawing into the paint with charcoal and through paper. “Then I stopped. Resisting the urge to tidy up this painting was as much about the process as any of the other actions. It’s not a playground of possibility”.
In producing this work Nancy has referenced Australian abstract artists, Tony Tuckson and Aida Tomescu.
