No Place like Home
No Place Like Home
Acrylic and oil on canvas
Vertical Polyptych 5x 50x50cm
This is a totem to home – its place of comfort, memory and creative expression, referencing the artist Eileen Gray and in particular the idea of ‘poetic spaces’ in the writing of Gaston Bachelard. Nancy collected images, colours and shapes of useful things, ornaments and objects embedded with memory and through the process of layering, cropping and obscuring, building them into the painting, some have become obscured in the process of making this new object.
A site specific commission and it an opposing visual reference for the painting series ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ in the end of year art academy exhibition, ‘All We Have’ at Islington Mill, curated by Fenne van den Heuven.
