Power, Corruption and Lies, which is the title of the 1983 album by New Order – named in reference to Animal Farm by George Orwell written in 1945. The repetition of ideas, predictions and themes echoing through art and time interests me and I wanted to explore whether I could capture the essence of these words and their meaning.
Through the process of painting, I let go of the initial forms and ideas that can dominate the early stages of the work. Those early moves though provide foundation against which I resist and upon which I can build an energy and visceral response to the subject.
